Welcome to the Schmidt-Ott Lab
We are a research laboratory at the University of Chicago with interests in evolutionary developmental biology (Evo-Devo). We work with a variety of fly species to functionally reconstruct the molecular and morphological diversification of embryonic development in the insect order Diptera (true flies). Our goals are (1) to reveal genetic mechanisms of evolutionary change, (2) to better understand the embryonic development of fly species that are important to human health, and (3) to contribute to a unified picture of insect development.
